Alexandria Picture Framing is owned by one artist and managed by another artist. Owner Soung Lee is a fine artist who specializes in lithographs, and formerly was a printmaking instructor at the University of Maryland. Soung opened the business in 1984. It is located in a large rowhouse in Old Town Alexandria, just off King Street.
Entering this big space, right away you know that this is no ordinary framing shop. There are large work tables, and big quantities of framing material everywhere. Soung is considered a master at multiple opening mats. The shop is used by leading interior designers for quality custom framing. Only the best materials are used, including archival conservation quality matboard that has an alkaline buffer against acidity, and UV-blocking conservation quality glass. The Tru-Vue line of glass is used. Sometimes large fragile works of art are set behind plexiglass.
The options available here include box framing and shadow boxes. They will also frame christening gowns, dry bouquets, needle points, and cross stitches. Rush and one day service is available when necessary. There is private parking available behind the store.
